Carl Billinghurst

Freelance Web Designer and Digital Project Manager

An experienced Digital Project Manager, Web and UI/UX designer based in the South West, with a passion for the bicycle.

I am a dynamic and creative designer with 16 years of experience working across sectors to deliver client visions. I have seven years of departmental management experience and am skilled in transforming clients ideas into commercially successful outcomes implementing successful digital strategies and UX decisions.

Working closely with clients, development teams and marketing agencies has enabled me to build relationships as a successful leader, a person that makes decisions, makes promises and sticks to them while consistently demonstrating the ability to show humility while handling the pressure of having to lead.

With a degree in Multimedia Design lead me to begin my career as a web & multimedia designer, I was lucky enough to soon be designing and managing creative projects for some big names in the movie industry including Icon Movies, Lions Gate Films, HBO Films, New Market Films, Universal South, Sony Music. This included Mel Gibson’s Personal project THE PASSION OF THE CHRIST. The site attracted 36 million visits a day at its peak, making it the 8th busiest website in the world.

Based in the South West has allowed me to have worked within two top digital agencies in a lead role developing my skills towards becoming a digital project manager. I have continued to manage creative web projects for businesses throughout the UK which include BIAZA, National Marine Aquarium, Flambards, Paignton Zoo, Living Coasts, Best of British, Darthaven Marina, Riverford Organic Farmers, Beverley Holidays, Hello Kingsbridge, Go-Ahead Group and Kents Cavern.

Away from work, my passion for cycling and mountain biking combined with my digital skills lead to the creation of MoreDirt, an online mountain bike community. Started as a personal project it quickly developed into a community with over 50,000 users producing around 1 million page impressions a month. The site continues to be my digital sandbox which allows me to keep developing my skills and has given me the opportunity to travel while trying my hand at a little bit of cycling journalist.
